Vintage bikes on display tonight in Douglas

by isleofman.com 30th August 2011

SOME of the greatest motorcycles ever made will be on show later this afternoon (Tuesday) on Douglas promenade when a display of machinery will be staged opposite the Villa Marina.

The display is part of the week-long series of events being staged by the Vintage Manx Motor Cycle Club during the MGP fortnight when a huge number of vintage bikes visit the Island.

Classic vintage machinery going back to the early days of the TT will be included in this afternoon’s Concours d’Elegance which is expected to be well attended by the many enthusiasts who gather each year to celebrate the history of motorcycle racing.

Today’s event - Party on the Prom - starts with machines assembling from 4pm with judging from 6pm and the awards being presented in the beer tent at 6.45pm.

There is also sand racing on Douglas beach this evening. The first practice is at 6.30pm and racing starts at 7pm. Admission is free.

The beer tent will host a celebrity chat show later at 9pm.
