ADVENTUROUS individuals from the Isle of Man have been invited to take part in a challenge to walk three of Britain's most imposing ridges.
The Three Ridge Charity Challenge is being organised by the Department of Education and Children's Youth Service to raise money for the Ardwhallan Outdoor Education Centre.
Participants will be required to scale Crib Goch in Snowdonia National Park in Wales, Striding Edge in the Lake District in England, and Aonach Eagach Ridge in Glencoe, Scotland.
Paul Melling, head of adventure education for the Department of Education and Children, said: "We have chosen to tackle a three-ridge challenge rather than the more common three peaks race as we believe it will be more of a challenge - even for the adventurous.
"During our three days we will explore how we have developed as individuals and as part of the team which is in keeping with the ethos of Ardwhallan.
"The challenge will take place over three days with us aiming to complete a ridge each day and travelling between the regions in the evening. A good level of fitness, a sense of adventure and a head for heights are a must for this."
Those taking part will be required to raise a minimum of £500 in sponsorship which will be used to fund trips for young people in the Island through the Ardwhallan centre.
Jenny Lantry, outdoor education worker for the department, said: "This is not just a walk in the mountains. The ridges we will be attempting are some of the most famous routes in the UK and will involve scrambling over rocky, exposed sections.
"This is an excellent opportunity for participants to tackle these technical ridges with the guidance and support of qualified and experienced mountain leaders."
The Three Ridge Charity Challenge will take place from April 2 to April 5, 2012. Participants must be aged 18 or over and there are 10 available spaces.
A meeting will be held on Monday, September 26, at 7pm at Ardwhallan for people who would like more information. To book a place at the meeting e-mail p.melling@doe.sch.im or j.lantry@doe.sch.im.
