Mayor to lead off Relay for Life at NSC

by isleofman.com 27th August 2011

A 24-hour walking challenge gets under way at the National Sports Centre this lunchtime (Saturday), aiming to raise thousands of pounds to help cancer sufferers.

Organisers of the Cancer Research Isle of Man Relay for Life hope to top the ?44,000 the event raised last year.

Teams from across the Island will gather to walk around the NSC athletics track from noon and, after Mayor Ritchie McNicholl leads the first lap of the track, there will be a special VIP reception for cancer survivors.

A ceremony dedicated to those affected by cancer will be held at dusk when candles will be lit around the track.
