Challenge to "Think Big" and grow ?50 into something more

by isleofman.com 24th August 2011

ENTREPRENEURS are being asked to think big to grow £50 into a larger amount over a six week period to raise money for The Children's Centre.

The Fifty Quid Think Big Challenge is a fundraising event which challenges corporate teams or individuals to think of ideas to increase their £50 seed money in a legal and ethical way.

Paragon Recruitment will be providing the start up money. Director Jo Wood said: "Last year we saw the launch of the Think Big project and we were delighted with the positive impact it had across a wide range of companies.

"Paragon Recruitment is proud to sponsor this exciting initiative again. It's a worthy cause and gives companies an ideal platform to show off their effective team work, entrepreneurial skills and competitive streaks.

"We can't wait to see the ideas generated and put into practice and we hope that all the teams have plenty of fun along the way."

Last year 10 teams took part in the challenge raising a total of £6,000 and it is hoped that between 15 and 20 teams will enter this year.

A team from Standard Bank was declared the winners after growing their £50 into more than £2,000 by organising a number of events including salsa and race nights.

Sonia Edwards from Standard Bank said: "The Fifty Quid Think Big Challenge was a real highlight for us last year and winning was a great reward for the hard work we put into organising fundraising activities starting with just £50.

"Being involved in this initiative generates a real buzz around the office and to anyone considering getting involved this year I would say don't hesitate.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to work together outside of the office and provides plenty of ways to get creative, stretch individual's skills and have some fun while raising vital funds for a local charity which really does do so much for families in the Isle of Man. The rewards are plentiful for all involved."

Once the challenge has come to an end the team or individual who raises the most money will be crowned the winner. Another prize will be available for the most creative idea. As well as the £50 seed money entrants will receive an information pack with lots of useful advice.

The Think Big Challenge will run from September 12 to October 21. All proceeds raised from the event will go support projects organised by The Children's Centre including Out2Play, Mobex, Child Contact Centre and the Philip Christian Centre.
