Warning issued after businesses report cold calling activity

by isleofman.com 23rd August 2011

LOCAL businesses in the Isle of Man are being warned not to give out financial information to cold callers.

The Isle of Man Constabulary has received reports that someone is contacting businesses offering the opportunity to purchase advertising space in a police publication - but the police say no such publication exists.

PC Mike Radcliffe, a crime reduction officer, said: "I would wish to make it clear to the public that whilst we have previously worked in conjunction with UK based companies to produce policing related publications the Isle of Man Constabulary is not currently producing any publications.

"Therefore any company making such an offer has no links to the force and is not working on our behalf.

"As with all business transactions you should never disclose any financial information during a 'cold call' telephone conversation and should request full details in writing prior to agreeing to take up any offer."

If you have been affected or would like more information contact Police Headquarters on 01624 631212 or the Office of Fair Trading on 01624 686500.
