'Government should have anticipated VAT bombshell'

by isleofman.com 23rd August 2011

A Liberal Vannin candidate in next month's House of Keys general election says the Isle of Man should have had a 'Plan B' in relation to income from VAT.

Peter Hill, who recently declared in the two-seat constituency of North Douglas, moved to the Island a decade ago and is currently clerk to Lonan Commissioners and deputy clerk to the Laxey board.

He says VAT was the top issue of concern among voters before the last election, but the government did nothing (listen to audio file below):

There are three other candidates in North Douglas, Theo Fleurbaay and outgoing MHKs Bill Henderson and John Houghton.
