Cav rides for teammate in Tour of Spain

by isleofman.com 22nd August 2011

There was something of a role reversal for Mark Cavendish in the Tour of Spain yesterday (Sunday).

The Manx sprinter had been expected to mount his own challenge in stage two, but said afterwards that his HTC Highroad team had instead been trying to put 22-year-old John Degenkolb in the leader's jersey.

Cav said on Twitter: 'Hard finish! We were riding for young Degenkolb for jersey, but we couldn't quite get organised. I could only get him to 700 m'.

Team Sky's fortunes at the Vuelta a Espana improved, as their Australian rider Chris Sutton sprinted to victory.

Today's third stage is from Petrer to Totana, a distance of 164 kilometres.
