Broadcaster declares in East Douglas

by isleofman.com 22nd August 2011

A broadcaster says he wants to keep Isle of Man plc on track in the difficult times ahead.

Paul Moulton has announced his intention to contest the two seats in East Douglas in next month's House of Keys general election.

The 51-year-old, who has lived in the area for 30 years, has stood down from his current position as Isle of Man correspondent with ITV Granada.

Mr Moulton, who worked at Manx Radio for many years, says the Isle of Man needs to centre government finances on core public services.

He says that means protecting health care, education and social services, while pushing to expand the Island's place in the world, by increasing the wealth of the whole community.

Mr Moulton says he hasn't much time ahead of the election so will be making great use of video and social networks to get his policies across.

He is the fifth candidate to declare in East Douglas, the others being outgoing MHKS Brenda Cannell and Chris Robertshaw, and challengers Richard Kissack and Geraldine O'Neill.

Nominations close on Tuesday, August 30 with polling on Thursday, September 29.
