Cocaine case defendant is fined

by isleofman.com 21st August 2011

A 31-year-old man who possessed just over two-thirds of a gram of cocaine has been fined ?700 by Deputy High Bailiff Jane Hughes.

Jonathan David Chapman, of Fairfield Terrace in Douglas, admitted the offence.

Rachel Braidwood, prosecuting, said the defendant was arrested and searched in Tynwald Street, Douglas on June 26, and a black wrap was discovered.

The drug had a street value of ?53.

The defendant's advocate said it was a very small amount which was for his own use. Chapman had immediately admitted his guilt to the police and had been fully co-operative.

Mrs Hughes told the defendant the matter was serious, but as the amount was small it could be dealt with by imposing a financial penalty.
