Another candidate is out to secure the Castletown seat in the House of Keys, which is now vacant following the retirement from politics of long-serving member, and outgoing chief minister, Tony Brown.
Jason Moorhouse has taught economics, business and geography at Castle Rushen High School for the past 16 years.
His home is in Onchan, but he says his knowledge of Castletown, including general and business issues in the constituency, makes it the natural place for him to stand.
He is well known for his work with Junior Achievement and the Manx Executive Challenge.
Announcing his candidacy, Mr Moorhouse says a priority for the next administration must be the removal of unnecessary waste in the public sector.
He says the current level of spending must be reined in, but care must be taken to avoid sudden and inappropriate cuts, which would have a negative impact on all our futures.
There are now five candidates in Castletown, the others being David Pownall, and local commissioners Colin Leather, Carol Quine, and Richard Ronan.
