PUPILS at Auldyn Infants School in Ramsey have won a chance to attend the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Youth Games.
They adopted the country of Kenya as part of an education scheme which saw 36 schools around the Island learn about a competing nation taking part in this year's sporting event.
The scheme has been running in schools since the start of the year and school children have been using Wikis, which were developed by Britannia International and the Department of Education and Children, to find out about their selected nation.
Pupils then created a displays in the schools which were judged by Education and Children Minister Eddie Teare MHK, Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK and Nick Pledger from Britannia International.
Mark Beresford, managing director of Britannia International, said: "The standard was very high and the judges were impressed with the attention to detail shown in all the displays and the tremendous efforts pupils had gone to in learning about their respective competing nation.
"The displays will be on show in all the schools taking part and it is hoped that competitors from the visiting nations will see some of them whilst here for the games."
In July the school also won £400 towards sports equipment after producing a short five to 10 minute film or podcast about their adopted Commonwealth nation.
The Commonwealth Youth Games take place between September 7 and September 13.
