Two more countries drop out of Commonwealth Youth Games

by isleofman.com 15th August 2011

THE number of countries competing in this year's Commonwealth Youth Games has dropped to 67.

Montserrat and Lesotho have dropped out of the competition which will be held in the Island in September.

A spokesperson for the Commonwealth Youth Games said one of the teams had dropped out because they couldn't get enough athletes together and the other had dropped out because one of their athletes was injured and another had a personal issue that meant they couldn't attend.

Their places will not be re-allocated to other Commonwealth countries as it is past the deadline date to do this.

71 nations had originally been scheduled to attend the games but the total now stands at 67 following the Norfolk Islands and Vanuatu dropping out in June.

The Commonwealth Youth Games will take place between September 7 and September 13. They will be officially opened by His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex.
