NINE out of 10 planning applications submitted in the Isle of Man are being approved.

That's according to figures released by the Department of Infrastructure which show 90 per cent of applications get the go ahead.

The figures show that since January 1, of this year 615 approvals have been granted.

73 per cent of these applications, submitted between April 1 and June 30, have been determined in eight weeks.

David Quirk MHK, chairman of the planning committee, said: "Many people express strong views about planning in the Isle of Man yet few actually realise how many planning applications are approved and how quickly those decisions are made.

"Planning is playing a strong and proactive role in supporting our economy, protecting our environment and heritage and enabling the Isle of Man to continue to flourish."
