Dunlop turns on the style at Dundrod

by isleofman.com 13th August 2011

Michael Dunlop scored a hat-trick of wins in the Ulster Grand Prix today (Saturday).

The 22-year-old from Ballymoney took the chequored flag for the first time at Dundrod at the end of a thrilling battle with Guy Martin in the opening Superstock event.

Bruce Anstey won the main race of the day, the Superbike, despite starting in the second wave of riders. Guy Martin crossed the line before him, but could only look on as the New Zealander beat him on time. The rest of the top six were Keith Amor, who was third, Gary Johnson, William Dunlop and Cameron Donald. Dan Kneen was 15th.

Gary Johnson finished third in the Superstock, in drying conditions, with Conor Cummins a fine sixth, but other Manx hopeful Dan Kneen retired on lap two.

Dunlop, who recorded his second TT victory in the Superstock earlier this year, beat off the challenge of brother William to take the two Supersport races, rounding off a very successful season, which included victories in the North West 200 and Southern 100.

Ian Lougher claimed his 17th Ulster Grand Prix win in the 250cc, and another well known TT competitor, Ryan Farquhar took the honours in the Supertwins.
