Leather joins race for Castletown seat

by isleofman.com 12th August 2011

A long-serving commissioner in Castletown is to contest the single-seat constituency in next month's House of Keys general election.

Colin Leather has served the local authority for almost 30 years, during which he has been chairman five times, the most recent occasion being during the 2010-2011 municipal year.

Mr Leather says he supports the restructuring of local government and further investment in young people in the Isle of Man.

He also says it's important to ensure Castletown's retail sector is safeguarded, to secure local employment.

Three other candidates have declared in the constituency, namely fellow commissioners Carol Quine and Richard Ronan, and David Pownall.

Voters in Castletown know they will have a new MHK, following the retirement from politics of Tony Brown, who has held the position for 30 years.

The general election is on Thursday, September 29.
