by isleofman.com 10th August 2011

UNEMPLOYMENT in the Isle of Man rose in July - giving the Island an unemployment rate of 2.1 per cent.

Statistics show that there were 890 people unemployed. Of these 633 were men and 257 were women.

During July 247 people signed on and 203 signed off.

A total of 575 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre with 306 positions still available at the end of the month.

Treasury Minister Anne Craine MHK said: "An increase in unemployment in July is a seasonal trend but fortunately job availability in the Island is still looking strong with the best part of 600 vacancies on offer during the month."
