THE findings of a consultation about a proposed health and safety authority for the Island have been published.
There were a total of 50 responses - 11 from members of the public, 13 from companies, 10 from government departments, boards and offices, six from local authorities, four from Tynwald members, five from professional organisations, employee representatives and interested parties and one from a political organisation.
The Department of Infrastructure has revealed nearly half of the responses received (48 per cent) were in favour of an authority being established, 27 per cent were against the idea and 25 per cent were either neutral or expressed no opinion.
The majority of public and non-public organisations were in favour of the proposal though some caveats were expressed and a need for additional consultation identified.
The majority of members of the public who submitted views were against the proposals, as were, on the whole, the political members.
With one exception local authorities were either supportive, neutral or had no comment to make.
