by isleofman.com 9th August 2011

SOME of the political responsibilities of the Department of Economic Development have been reassigned following the appointment of Clare Christian MLC as President of Tynwald.

Department Minister Allan Bell MHK announced the changes and said it was important that the department continued to "build for the future" to strive to achieve economic growth.

Dudley Butt MLC has taken over responsibility for the Employment and Skill Group which includes training, the Job Centre, careers service and work permits.

Alex Downie MLC has taken on responsibility for manufacturing, construction, energy policy, clean technology, properties and mines and minerals. He is already responsible for e-business, e-gaming, space, the film industry and the ship and aircraft registers.

Geoff Corkish MHK remains responsible for tourism and Juan Watterson MHK remains responsible for financial services and the Companies Registry.

Mr Bell said: "I believe my political colleagues have the commitment, motivation, enthusiasm and experience to deliver outstanding services in their areas of responsibility, and would like to thank them for their past and ongoing contribution.

"I would also like to thank Clare Christian for the work she has undertaken within the department and I wish her every success in her new role as the President of Tynwald."
