Would-be tenant wants assurances

by isleofman.com 9th August 2011

Hopes of immediately reopening a grocery store at the heart of a northern community have been dashed.

Jurby General Stores closed last week while the government looks for new tenants to take over the lease.

Liz Gubby from the One Stop Shop in Ballaugh had offered to reopen the shop temporarily, but now wants the lease on a permanent basis.

She says she would want to be properly recognised for setting up an emergency shop:

The Department of Social Care, which owns the building, says it will give the lease to the proposer offering the best service for the community, and hopes to have it open again by next month.
