Retired dentist obtains financial diploma after career move

by isleofman.com 8th August 2011

A RETIRED dentist has obtained a Level 4 Diploma in Finanical Planning following a career move.

Julian Sutton is now a director at Thornton Associates – the Island's first firm of Chartered Financial Planners.

Over the last three years Julian has passed nine exams to gain the diploma. He is now trained to advise on retirement planning including pension products, pension tax regime and retirement needs.

The Financial Supervision Commission has introduced new regulations under the Retail Distribution Review which requires advisors to be qualified to at least Level 4 on the Qualification Credit Framework in order to demonstrate their ability. This regulation will come into effect in the Isle of Man in 2013.

Sharon Sutton, managing director of Thornton Associates said: "We are thrilled by Julian's success. It's no mean feat to pass these exams so we're delighted that his hard work has paid off. It is vital that in this competitive environment we maintain a high quality service. This achievement is a reflection of our dedication to the profession."

Julian ran Castletown Dental Practice for 30 years before retiring to work alongside his wife in the independent financial services company.
