Party-goers are being told to look out for higher strength ecstasy pills.
After years of falling purity, the Department of Health says MDMA levels are on the increase, and it has issued a stark warning about the dangers posed to users.
The department says pills sold as ecstasy in recent years have largely been made of amphetamines, caffeine or other stimulants.
However, most of the tablets seized at music festivals and clubs in the United Kingdom this year have included higher levels of MDMA, the main ingredient of the drug when it first emerged in the 1980s.
The department says users will not be used to the strength of the pills now on the market, and they may result in serious side-effects and, potentially, even death.
The warning comes as hundreds of revellers look forward to this weekend's Mannifest music festival, at the Glen Lough campsite, outside Union Mills.
