'Manx should follow Jersey Finance model'

by isleofman.com 3rd August 2011

The Isle of Man needs to grow and diversify its economy, to help tackle a stagnant job market.

That's according to Alf Cannan, a general election candidate in the constituency of Michael.

Mr Cannan, who runs a recruitment agency, says demand from private sector companies for full-time, permanent staff has fallen significantly in the last three years.

He says government needs to look to the private sector to help the recovery, possibly taking a leaf out of Jersey's book (listen to audio file below):

Alf Cannan is one of three people who have so far declared their intention to contest the single seat in Michael. The others are Paul Heavey and David Talbot.

The general election is on Thursday, September 29.
