THE possibility of the Isle of Man becoming involved in a programme of expansion into Europe for Japanese green technology companies is to be discussed on the Island next week.
The Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce is staging a breakfast meeting on Tuesday, August 9 when executives from the London-based webTV channel United Brain Networks (UBN) will speak to local businessmen.
UbrainTV.com serves as a special interest forum producing environmental industry webcasts featuring academics, business leaders and other luminaries.
As a UK-Japan joint initiative,UbrainTV.com has successfully built its content thanks to contributions from supporters including Think London, Greater London Authority, the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC), Japan's Jinja Honcho (Association of Shinto Shrines), Foyles Bookshop, Veolia and Nissan.
During this summer the UBN team began delivering against their strategy to act as an accelerator for Japanese green technology companies expanding into Europe. They supported a Japanese green technology developer (Mirco Energy) and successfully enabled them to form an offshore entity (based in Jersey) with a view to the worldwide deployment and commercial exploitation of the promising technology.

UBN are in talks with a number of other Japanese green technology companies wishing to expand to Europe and also with HSBC to launch an awards programme for green technologies expanding into Europe.
The purpose of the visit to the Isle of Man is designed to help understand better the Isle of Man’s proposition and explore possibilities regarding location. UBN will also be able to outline their own proposition to potential next phase investors.
