'Range of experiences' needed among MHKs

by isleofman.com 2nd August 2011

Career politicians are not the way ahead for the Isle of Man.

That's the belief of a sitting member of the House of Keys who is bidding to be returned by the people of West Douglas in next month's general election.

Government minister John Shimmin recognises that the latest blow to Manx government finances, through the loss of further revenue from VAT, means there will be more tough decisions ahead.

However, he doesn't think the Island would be better served by representatives with no experience outside politics (listen to audio file below):

Four people have so far declared their intention to contest the two seats in West Douglas, the others being sitting member Geoff Corkish and challengers Martin Moore and John Skinner.
