Weather affects play at cricket tournament

by isleofman.com 29th July 2011

For the second day in a row weather is casting doubts over the 11 am start in the under 19 cricket championships.

The Isle of Man are scheduled to meet Germany at Cronkbourne today. The game is supposed to start at 11am but overnight rain is likely to force a delay for a pitch inspection.

Yesterday rain delayed the start by two hours and reduced the number of overs per innings to 42.

The Isle of Man played Gibraltar, batted first and made 176 for 3 with Carl Wagstaffe putting in an excellent 78. Alex Stokoe hit 39 and Adam McAuley was 27 not out at the end.

Skipper Dan Hawke blasted the Rock with an imperious first over. Two wickets fell and the boys from the Jeb el tariq never recovered. They were dismissed for 53 with Seb Aycock taking 3 for 7 in just 5 overs. Keeper Adam Killey impressed with two stumpings and a catch.

Gibraltar also see action today, against Italy. Tournament favourites Denmark take on France . Both of those matches are at King Williams College. Israel play Norway at Ballafletcher.
