Weekly evening steam trains to Castletown start tonight

by isleofman.com 28th July 2011

A WEEKLY evening return steam train service from Douglas to Castletown starts tonight (Thursday).

The trains will run on every Thursday throughout the summer, leaving Douglas at 7.20pm and arriving in Castletown at 8pm.

The return train leaves Castletown at 9.30pm, arriving back in Douglas at 10.10pm.

Manx National Heritage is extending Castle Rushen's opening hours until 9pm on Thursdays to enable visitors to enjoy the facility in the summer evenings.

Entertainment will be staged at the castle on Thursday nights, including young bands from the Department of Education and Children's Youth Service music project Soundcheck who will perform on August 18.

A hog roast will be held in the Castle grounds on August 25.

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK said: "Once again we are linking with other organisations to put on a varied programme of special events designed to appeal to both visitors and residents.

"If you're stuck for something to do on a Thursday night, this is the ideal opportunity to explore Castle Rushen after normal opening hours.

"Alternatively, the timings would allow for a stroll around Castletown, taking in the scenery or some refreshments."
