Ramsey Post Office completes move

by isleofman.com 26th July 2011

RAMSEY Post Office is up and running in its new home.

It was relocated from Court Row to the former courthouse building over the weekend and the new site was officially opened by Chairman of Isle of Man Post Office Alan Crowe MLC yesterday (Monday).

Sharon Maddrell will continue as the branch manager and her team remains unchanged.

The area around the courthouse is set to become the focal point of a newly revitalised Ramsey as part of the town’s regeneration scheme.

Customers, post office board members and local dignitaries including Ramsey MHKs Allan Bell and Anne Craine and Chairman of Ramsey Town Commissioners Captain Nigel Malpass attended the opening.

General manager of the Isle of Man Post Office's retail network Marty Quine said: "We are delighted to have moved into such a prestigious property in the town which has lay in the heart of the town for so long.

"Postal services are an important service for any community and I hope customers will like this new location and find it more convenient."

Also in attendance was Inspector Richard Power of Northern Neighbour Policing Team who said: "The move of the post office to the courthouse represents a valuable asset to Ramsey and the north and I am sure that it will be a success.

"At present the police station will remain at the courthouse with the public reception area in the same place.

"Out of hours contact can still be made by the public via the outside phone located at the front of the premises. There will be no disruption to police services."

Housed within the new post office is a fascinating display of photographs featuring postal services in Ramsey from times gone by including some old images of the town itself.

The oldest photograph in the display dates back from 1888 and features Ramsey postmen. A model of the Ellan Vannin is also on display, built by and kindly on loan from Harry Edmundson, of Liverpool.

Anyone is welcome to visit the exhibition and view the model during normal post office opening hours Monday to Saturday.
