About IOMAS - Who we are

by isleofman.com 26th July 2011

The Isle of Man Adoption Service is a registered charity (No. 268 - IOM), and a registered voluntary adoption agency. We are currently contracted by the Isle of Man government to provide all the adoption services on the Isle of Man, but are NOT a part of the Social Services Division.

The charity is run by a Board of Directors – over half of whom have some personal experience of adoption. Their role is to oversee the running of the agency and to determine the strategic path which the agency will take in the future.

The day to day management responsibility for the running of the agency is delegated to the agency manager, and there are 3 full time social work staff who undertake the full range of services offered. The team is supported by one full time office manager and an administrative assistant.

The agency also has an independent project which is not a part of the government contract – the Life Changes project. Currently we have one independent worker who provides a service for birth parents and relatives who have lost a child to adoption, usually through the care system. The project also collates and compiles information for children in adoptive homes about their origins and the reasons why they came into care and were placed for adoption. This is provided in a series of books individually tailored to the child’s own history.

The agency President is the Bishop of Sodor and Man, and our Patron is the Lieutenant Governor.
