Plant proposal not seeking govt backing

The backers of a new abbatoir are not looking for government funding.

An application for planning permission in principle has been submitted for a meat processing plant at Ellerslie Farm in Crosby.

It's been brought forward by William and Pentti Christian who say it wouldn't be in direct competition with the existing abbatoir.

Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Shimmin, says they haven't approached government for financial assistance:
