A LOCAL card shop has beaten over 50,000 shops across the UK to win an award in a national competition that celebrates greeting card retailing.

Mantons Card and Toy Store in Port Erin picked up the award for Best Greeting Card Retail Initiative and was the runner up in the Card Shop Employee of the Year category at the Retas Awards.

Chris Beards, the joint owner of Mantons, said: "The winners are chosen from across the whole of the UK so everyone at Mantons is delighted to be named as the winner.

"This is well deserved recognition for all the hard work and commitment to help customers which is something all of us at Mantons takes pride in."

Assistant manager Claire Scott, who is 20, was the youngest person to ever be nominated in the Card Shop Employee of the Year category.

Mantons stocks more than 7,000 card designs and was noted by a panel of experts for its wide range of products offered, inviting retail environment, excellent customer service and marketing initiatives.

Chris and Claire collected the Mantons trophy at an award ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel in London last week.
