A FILM School will again be run by the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure's (DCCL) Arts Development Office this summer.
The initiative is free for participants and takes place during the summer holidays for children and young people. This year it will be held at St Ninian’s Lower School over three weeks and is split into different levels.
Weeks one and two take place from August 1 to August 4 and August 8 to August 12 and are set at intermediate level for those with some film making experience, age eight upwards.
All places on these two weeks are filled but there is some availability on week three from August 15 to 19 – this week is for children aged eight to 11 and is aimed at beginners.
Sessions are run from 9am to 4pm during all three weeks. The application deadline for Beginners' Film School has been extended to July 22.
All participants can expect to be involved in and learn about all aspects of film making and can make their own film with the facilities provided.
Participants in Film School often enter their films into the Arts Council's Young Film Maker of Mann Competition and several have won the competition.
DCCL member with responsibility for Arts Quintin Gill MHK said: "We are delighted to provide this opportunity for young people.
"For those who have no experience but are creative, Film School for beginners (August 15 to 19) is a fantastic opportunity to see what they are capable of."
Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK added: "The children involved get the chance to use high quality equipment and to learn new skills.
"Last year I was involved in one of the films that was made at Film School and was very impressed by the ability of the young people who were there."
