TWELVE sixth form students from St Ninian's High School in Douglas are heading to Borneo on Friday.
The expedition will see them work at an orphanage.
A spokesman for the group, Dylan Healy, said the students have been planning the trip for 18 months and have raised money by bag packing, car washes, cake sales and sponsored football tournaments.
A teacher from the school will accompany the students and the team will also include a leader from Wilderness Expertise.
Dylan said: "Whilst in the country we have a hectic and challenging itinerary which includes building water tanks, helping orphans, climbing the highest mountain in South-East Asia as well as a lot more.
"We are going to spend two weeks of our trip helping at the Bornean orphanage and on the project providing a clean water source for a community in Borneo.
"We are in charge of finding transport, accommodation and food for ourselves whilst in the country.
"This whole experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity and will greatly improve our personal development."
