Consider privatisation - MLC urges govt

by isleofman.com 16th July 2011

An MLC says the government may have to look into privatising some of the Island’s services as the latest VAT bombshell bites.

David Callister asked a question for written reply about loss-making arms of the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure in Tynwald last week.

The answer from Minister David Cretney showed the government lost ?12 million through the buses, trains, Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre.

Mr Callister says those services may be among the first to be contracted out as the department looks to save cash.
