Damaged land to be closed off?

Environment Minister John Shimmin says his department is trying to prevent motorsports fans from destroying the countryside.

In Tynwald on Thursday he faced calls from North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson to bring in new laws to protect the environment from off-roaders and trials bikes.

Mr Shimmin says the department is doing all it can to prevent the damage, and says the majority of the harm is done by tourists.

But he is also warning that, as money for repairs runs out, areas of damaged land might have to be closed off in future:
