ONE of the most senior executives of Lloyds TSB is to visit he Isle of Man next week to give a presentation to customers and members of the business sector about investing in financial markets.
The bank’s Ambassador, Dr George Lo, will be giving a presentation at the Manx Museum on July 19 and his subject will be the current investment landscape, highlighting the opportunities that still exist for long term wealth creation.
Dr Lo started as an academic economist. Having been born and educated in Hong Kong, he went on to study at universities in North America, writing his dissertation under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Edward Prescott.
He taught economics for five years while conducting research in the areas of the rational expectations approach to business cycles, money and banking and financial economics.
Dr Lo then moved to Geneva where he managed various high risk/reward funds for Lloyds International Private Banking, including the acclaimed LIP World Equities Fund, which was recognised as the ‘Number One Global Fund’ in 1999 as well as a number of other accolades from leading wealth magazines.
Dr Lo firmly prioritises long term growth. At a similar engagement in the Channel Islands he said, “Over the long term you have to be realistic about growth. If you’re trigger happy then you can get unlucky and destroy a lot of performance.
“You will lose a lot of opportunities and create a lot of risk in the current markets. The world is getting more volatile, so it is important to invest for the long-term in areas of superior growth.”
Jo Wright, senior manager at Lloyds TSB on the Isle of Man, added, “Dr Lo has an incredible range of experience of financial markets, both from an academic perspective and from the ‘real world’ of managing funds, and it is a great privilege and opportunity to have him share that experience with us on the Island.
“This visit represents our firm belief at Lloyds that the Isle of Man and jurisdictions like it play a significant role in the bigger picture of the global economy.”
Bron Lysiak of Lloyds TSB Offshore will also be providing guests with an overview of the bank’s current suite of investment solutions.
The presentation is open to all members of the business community. Interested parties should contact Lucy Felton at Lloyds TSB on 664 037or at lucy.felton@lloydstsb-offshore.com .
