A PRIMARY school from the Isle of Man has won the Spirit of Rugby Award at the RFU YAZOO National Tag 2 Twickenham rugby final.

Scoill Ree Gorree beat off 20 other schools from across England in the competition which is designed to encourage children to participate in sport and pursue healthier lifestyles.

240 children took part in the rugby school event after making it through a series of local and regional heats.

Mark Cueto, the England player and Sale Sharks captain, attended the event and said: "There was a high level of talent here at rugby school today with a few budding England stars in the making.

"I've been involved with the programme for five years and am proud to be a part of what is now the biggest tag rugby scheme in England.

"It was fantastic to see so many kids coming down here and travelling so for to take part. The dedication from the teams and teachers especially was fantastic.

"Last year I was blown away by the quality of the rugby and it has to be said this year was even better."

The overall competition winner will be decided at a match on August 6 which is between Stanley Junior School from Teddington and West Leigh Primary School from Essex.
