Cav survives climb and keeps Green Jersey lead.

by isleofman.com 14th July 2011

The formidable Col du Tourmalet was the setting for today's Tour de France stage 12.

The Manx missile is well known for his dislike of climbing and there was never any danger he'd be challenging for the stage win.

As it turned out Euskaltel's Samuel Sanchez took the stage after a strong and determined ride.

Cav managed to stay within reach of the peloton to finish the stage - and as something of a sweetener picked up nine points for being the first of the peloton in an intermediate sprint. That means he stays in the green jersey and extends his lead over Rojas in the sprint classification 260 -242
