Entries open for Viking Longboat races

ENTRIES are now open for the Royal London 360° Viking Longboat World Championships in Peel which celebrates its 48th anniversary this year.

 

The event, in association with Manx Radio, takes place in Peel harbour and bay on Saturday August 20 and is again expected to attract big crowds of spectators.

 

There are three categories – male, female and mixed – and within those, a number of prize classifications including Insurance Company, Bank, Young Farmers, Fancy Dress and Shipping 

 

Entry costs £100 per team, and spaces are limited to 70 on a first come, first served basis. All teams must commit to two practice sessions before the event – these begin on Monday August 8.

 

The winning team in each category receives £500 for the Manx charity of their choice, the runner-up £250 and the third-placed team £150, with prize money being provided by Royal London 360°. Only Manx charities will benefit from this prize money.

• Racing will be postponed until 1pm on Sunday August 21 in the event of poor weather.
