Southern 100 - last night's photographs

by isleofman.com 14th July 2011

ACTION pictures from last night’s racing at the Southern 100, including the moment when the 600 race was stopped on the second lap.

Michael Dunlop was leading Guy Martin at the time and both pulled in at Castletown Corner when marshals waved red flags.

It followed an incident believed to have happened at Billown Dip involving at least two riders, although it's understood none of the injuries are thought to be life threatening.

The start of the evening's racing had already been delayed an hour after a car spilled large amounts of diesel between Cross Four Ways and Castletown Corner. Glorious weather with a temperature of 23C saw huge crowds all around the circuit to watch the racing, especially in the Castletown Corner and finishing straight.

The first event - the 1000 class - was another fantastic race which was led from start to finish by Guy Martin. However, runner up Michael Dunlop closed the gap towards the end of the six-lap race, losing by the narrowest of margins on the line, but had the consolation of taking the outright lap record for the second time this week.

More photographs from today’s racing will appear on isleofman.com later today.
