Steve Rodan confirms for Garff after missing out on presidency

by isleofman.com 13th July 2011

THE Speaker of the House of Keys has confirmed he will stand for Garff in September after missing out on the Tynwald presidency.

Yesterday Clare Christian was voted in as the new President of Tynwald in a secret ballot at the last sitting of the Tynwald Court before September.

It was a two horse race between Mrs Christian and Mr Rodan with 20 votes and 12 votes cast respectively.

Speaking after the result Mr Rodan said: "I congratulate Clare Christian on her election. She will be an excellent presiding officer and ambassador for Tynwald and the Isle of Man.

"As deputy president my purpose in standing was to offer members an alternative choice of candidate. That they have clearly done so gives me satisfaction.

"I sincerely thank those members who supported me and am especially grateful to my proposer Hon Phil Gawne MHK and seconder Juan Turner MLC for their supportive words in the chamber.

"I take this opportunity to confirm my previously declared candidature for the constituency of Garff at the forthcoming General Election."
