A 61 YEAR old man from Douglas is in a critical condition after a serious incident in the town yesterday morning (Monday).

The man, who has not been named, was found by a member of the public just after 7.15am on Athol Street with serious injuries.

He was taken to Noble's Hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries but remains in a critical condition.

A 22 year old man from Douglas has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

As a result of the incident Athol Street, and a number of roads which lead onto it, was closed for the majority of the day, with many workers unable to gain access to their offices.

A police spokesperson said: "We have a big debt of gratitude to the public who have had their day considerably disrupted by the road closures that we have had in place whilst we investigate this serious incident. These decisions are not taken lightly and we do appreciate the impact they have."

This morning (Tuesday) all roads are re-open as normal.
