by isleofman.com 12th July 2011

The final sitting of Tynwald before September's House of Keys general election is taking place today (Tuesday), with a huge question mark hanging over the Manx government's finances.

Treasury Minister Anne Craine is due to make a statement about the VAT revenue sharing agreement with the United Kingdom, with speculation the changes could eventually cost the Island another ?75 million a year.

At the same time government departments will ask the court to approve ?5 million in spending.

Among many other items on the order paper, a select committee looking into the TV licence fee is also due to report back with its findings.

There are 57 questions for oral answer and another 24 for written reply.

Issue covered include the Isle of Man's relationship with Bahrain after the country was criticised for human rights abuses, government spending on public relations and the chief minister’s drug and alcohol strategy.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran has more questions on CinemaNX and the film industry, while North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson will continue his campaign over the loss of jobs on the Island's railways.

There is full coverage of this month's Tynwald sitting on Manx Radio's AM 1368 frequency from 10.30 this morning.
