A 22 YEAR old man from Douglas has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a "serious incident" in the town centre this morning.
Police closed Athol Street and a number of roads in the surrounding area just before 7.30am this morning after a man was found with serious injuries in the area.
Speaking at the scene Inspector Phil Shimmin of the Douglas Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Just after 7.15am this morning the police got a call to report an injured man on Athol Street. As you can see the road is now closed.
"The man was found and has quite serious injuries. He has been taken to Noble's Hospital where he is being treated at the minute.
"About 35 minutes after that police arrested a 22 year old man from Douglas on suspicion of attempted murder and he has been detained at Police Headquarters."
The injured man, who has not been named, was found on Athol Street near to the junction with Church Street but Inspector Shimmin said the exact location of the incident was still unknown.
Police say they do not know at this stage if the men were known to each other.
Currently there is no access to buildings on Athol Street or Barrack Street meaning many office workers are unable to get into work. Shaws Brow car park is also closed.
Inspector Shimmin continued: "We're obviously appreciative of the fact we have a lot of roads closed around here and a lot of people are inconvenienced. I'd just appeal to everyone for patience at the moment – we are going to try and get them into their work as soon as we can."
