Stunned by leniency in double fatality case

by isleofman.com 11th July 2011

A Douglas father has spoken of his disbelief after the man convicted of killing his son and daughter-in-law in a bike accident was told he can carry on driving, despite being banned.

Roland Bayon, a French road safety officer, admitted causing the deaths of Peter and Jacqueline Corris by driving carelessly on the wrong side of the road in Scotland last August.

He was on holiday when he crashed into the couple's motorbike in the Highlands and, ten days ago, was fined ?3,000 and banned from driving for two years.

It's now emerged Bayon can carry on driving back home as the ban only applies in the United Kingdom.

Peter's father John Corris is stunned (listen to audio file below):

John Corris is chairman of the Manx Labour Party.
