Celebration of first plane flight

Douglas Borough Council is preparing to mark the 100th anniversary of the first plane flight from the Isle of Man.

On Monday, a plaque will be unveiled in Noble's Park by Mayor of Douglas Councillor Ritchie McNicholl, at a ceremony attended by the crew of NASA's space shuttle Discovery.

The first flight from Manx soil took place on July 4, 1911.

The plaque will on the grass between Noble's Park Pavilion and the bandstand.
