by isleofman.com 28th June 2011

The Rhodes men's football team have been sent home from the Island Games in the Isle of Wight.

Monday night's match between their team and Jersey saw two of their players sent off and clashes between players, officials and the crowd.

A meeting was held to discuss the situation today and a statement from the International Island Games Association confirmed an immediate suspesion of the team from the current competition.

It was further announced they'd been banned from the 2013 and 2015 Games.

A player involved in an altercation with the fourth official received an on-going suspension from the Island Games.

The organisers said the decision was made with 'great regret' but needed to be taken in order to preserve the international integrity of the 'friendly' Games.
