'Film cash should go on public services'

by isleofman.com 28th June 2011

A general election candidate in the single-seat constituency of Castletown says the money spent on making films in the Isle of Man would be better invested elsewhere.

Castletown commissioner Carol Quine says government expenditure generally needs reining in, after projects such as Richmond Hill and the runway extension at Ronaldsway.

But she is particularly concerned about the ?33 million invested in the film industry with a return, to date, of ?6 million.

Ms Quine says that cash would have been better spent on public services (listen to audio file below):

Two other people have declared in Castletown so far, David Pownall and Richard Ronan.
