Magpie Choir appeals for new songbirds

by isleofman.com 28th June 2011

A NEW community choir in Douglas which dubs itself as "something like Glee but with less jazz hands" is looking for members.

The Magpie Choir has been set up by Louisa Thomas, Kate Teare and Emma Percival and the trio plan to rehearse the choir for three months before putting on a live performance in the summer.

This will feature specially created arrangements, written by Louisa, which have never been performed before.

Louisa said: "It's an ambitious and sometimes bewildering task but music is a real passion for all three of us. It will be something like Glee but with less jazz hands and a little bit Adele by way of Polyphonic Spree."

Potential numbers include songs by Radiohead, Beth Rowley, Adele, Ellie Goulding, Gnarls Barkley and Ben Fold's Five – a mash up that includes Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Michael Buble, Anya Marina and The Pirates of Penzance.

The Magpie Choir is appealing to singers, guitar players, piano players, percussionists and reliable accompanists to attend the rehearsals as well as anyone with musical directing or conducting experience. No one will be asked to audition and first time performers are welcome.

Rehearsals will start at 5.30pm on Wednesday, July 13, at St Matthew's Hall on North Quay in Douglas.

Anyone who would like further information should contact Louisa at magpie@another.com or visit the choir's Facebook page by searching Magpie Choir Project.
