Parish Walk starts - first photographs

by isleofman.com 25th June 2011

THE Scottish Widows Parish Walk has started at the NSC this morning in conditions described as “near perfect” for race walking, which is good news for the record entry of competitors.

The weather is set to improve throughout the day and it’s expected to be much warmer this afternoon as the walkers head towards Peel where more than 1,000 finished last year for the first time.

This year it’s again expected to see another 1,000+ reaching the 32.5 miles distance to Peel Cathedral. But that’s not even half way for the walkers bidding to finish the 85 miles route which goes through 17 parishes.

Early leader, looking very impressive, was the winner for the last three years Jock Waddington. He led the field at Santon, reaching the check-in in front of Michael George, Vinny Lynch, Richard Gerrard, Richard Spenceley and Robbie Callister.

More reports and pictures will be featured on isleofman.com throughout the day, including the winner crossing the finishing line.
