THE Positive Action Group will hold another election themed meeting on Monday.
The meeting is entitled It's the Economy Stupid – a phrase coined by Bill Clinton – and will see the director of taxation at KPMG Greg Jones take to the floor.
Interviewed shortly after the Manx budget was revealed in February Mr Jones said: "In an election year you probably wouldn't expect too many radical changes to the way in which public finances are shaped but I think it's likely in the next year or two or three that we're going to have to look long and hard at public finances and how they're modelled.
"I personally think that we need to be looking and thinking out of the box in terms of things like privatisation programmes and alternative ways of raising revenue. I think that in years to come the government's going to have to look very seriously at those options."
He will discuss his ideas on these points, the Island's VAT position and the current CinemaNX row.
A spokesperson for the Positive Action Group said: "We believe that maintaining economic stability is a prime consideration in uncertain global conditions. We are delighted that Greg Jones will bring his international financial experience to consider such an important issue. He is frequently asked to address tax related seminars and offshore conferences. It should be a thought provoking evening."
It's the Economy Stupid will take place at the Manx Legion Club in Douglas on Monday at 7.30pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.
